Richard Potter is a professional services consultant with 30 years’ experience as an international business lawyer, law firm administrator and marketing director. Holding undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Toronto, he practised with Fasken Martineau in Toronto and London, founding the firm’s Computer & IT Law Group in the 1980s. Later, he headed the firm's office in London England and, returning to Toronto, became a full-time Director of Marketing and Business Development. In 2001, Richard started i-lawmarketing.ca. and, as a consultant, he advises on strategic issues, including mergers and firm governance, US/Canada cross-border strategies, practice management, CRM and harnessing electronic communications for better client service. In that latter connection, he continues to edit a bi-weekly e-newsletter for a leading Toronto-based IT/IP boutique firm. He has frequently contributed to LEXPERT Magazine and other publications on law firm administration topics and has spoken to law societies and law firm administrators across Canada. Richard feels he is incredibly lucky to carry on a national consulting practice from a home office base in rural Eastern Ontario (Prince Edward County), where he and his wife live in an 1875 farmhouse - in the middle of nowhere, but very much in the centre of the universe.
